For years now in Europe, the kickboxing world has been divided into halves, with Glory World Series playing host to a number of kickboxing’s elite athletes, and seemingly, the other top competitors making their home under the It’s Showtime banner. Other than the legendary K-1 organization, Glory and It’s Showtime have showcased the best of the best of today’s striking superstars.

At last week’s It’s Showtime: Aerts vs. Spong headlined event, It’s Showtime top man Simon Rutz took to the mic and delivered some amazing news to combat sports fans with the help from some special guests inside the ring, as Rutz and Glory World Series owner Bas Boon announced that Glory would be acquiring It’s Showtime, and that the world’s best kickboxers would now be competing under the same promotional umbrella.

Managing Director of Glory World Series, Marcus Luer had this to say in reference to the new organizational acquisition: “This is what the world of stand-up fighting has been waiting for – all the top fighters competing in the same series each time, to find out who is really the very best. GLORY World Series will be the ultimate platform and testing ground for these fighters to showcase their talent and skills. It doesn’t get much more exciting than this!”

“By adding ‘It’s Showtime, GLORY has truly established itself as the No. 1 kickboxing league in the world. This is what the fans have been waiting for and we are here to deliver it. GLORY will soon announce a new series of events, and a modernized tournament format for the rest of the year and for 2013.”

“The matchmaking possibilities will create some amazing fights and fans will truly see the best competing against the best across all weight classes. We are changing the landscape of this global sport.”

This is landmark announcement in the world of combat sports, and kickboxing in particular, in that in the wake of this incredible news, fan’s imaginations are undoubtedly going crazy with the match-up possibilities that will now be available through the purchase. Badr Hari vs. Daniel Ghita anyone!?
