Following Positive Test Results, Rafael ‘Feijao’ Cavalcante Receives One Year Suspension
Any MMA fans that witnessed Rafael ‘Feijao’ Cavalcante’s “Speedy Gonzales” first round submission of Mike Kyle on May 19th at the Barnett vs. Cormier event, saw a fighter who appeared to be making another run at a championship. ‘Feijao’ is already the former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion, and has chomping at the bit to get another shot at his former belt, since losing it to now UFC light heavyweight title challenger Dan Henderson in March of 2011.
Unfortunately for Cavalcante, his momentum will cease to a grinding halt following his positive test results from his fight with Kyle last month. Reportedly ‘Feijao’ tested positive for a banned substance, and has been confirmed to have received a one year suspension delivered by the California State Athletic Commission, as well as having his victory over Kyle changed to a no contest.
This suspension makes it 3 strikes for former Strikeforce champions, as Cavalcante will now join other suspended former champions ‘King’ Mo Lawal and Cristiane ‘Cyborg’. Lawal has since signed with Bellator and will make his debut in January of 2013, whereas ‘Cyborg’ and as of now, Cavalcante will wait out there fates under the Zuffa owned Strikeforce organization.
