Alistair Overeem Pops Positive For UFC 146 Pre-fight Drug Screen, Puts Main Event In Jeopardy
At last week’s pre-fight press conference for UFC 146, six of the event’s participants were selected for random drug screens, and one in particular, which is number one UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem, has failed his pre-fight test. Overeem’s T/E ratio was 10-to-1, which is far over the 6-to-1 limit for maintaining license, and now it appears as though he will not be competing for the UFC heavyweight title on May 26th at UFC 146, unless Alistair can come up with an immediate solution to this problem as quickly as possible.
The rest of the six athletes were clean, which now leaves fans with the question as to what will become of the scheduled main event. Will the card be scrapped, so a suitable replacement can still challenge current champion Junior Dos Santos for the title? Or will there be a lengthy appeal process between now and late May, to see if Overeem can somehow rectify the situation?
Either way you slice it, UFC president Dana White is beyond furious when asked about the situation, and White was quoted as saying. “Alistair was here in my fucking office, I don’t know how long ago—and he looked me and Lorenzo Fertitta in the eyes and said:‘Absolutely, I’m clean. I’ll pass that test.‘ ”
“How Fucking stupid do you have to be? Seriously dumb. Anybody who’s using (performance-enhancing drugs) right now is an absolute Fucking moron.”
“It’s even beyond…what’s the word I’m looking for? — it’s beyond belief. It’s beyond comprehension. You’re an absolute moron, a brain-dead absolute fucking dummy. It goes beyond a guy having any common sense whatsoever.”
As of now, there has been no confirmation on a replacement for Overeem, or whether the event will proceed as planned, but we here at StaredownMMA will continue to keep you updated on this story as details develop.
