RFA 2 Results: Maurice Smith Proves Age Isn’t a Factor
This weekend, Maurice Smith proved that age is only a number when he head kicked Jorge Cordoba in his Light Heavyweight debut. The 50-year-old dominated Cordoba and showcased his style of patient striking and slowly picking Cordoba a part until the third round where he landed a beautifully timed round house kick to Cordoba’s cranium at RFA 2.
RFA 2 showcased a woman’s bout between #1 125lb female Tara Larosa and Kelly Warren. The fight itself was a lackluster grappling match until the end of the 2nd round where Larosa started coming forward and pressing the action more with her hands. With only a second left in the third round, the top female at 125 was able to secure a solid armbar.
In the co-main event, Cliff Wright managed to upset Dakota Cochrane with a rear-naked-choke in the first round. Cochrane seemed to be in control until he lost position from being to anxious on top and then Wright managed to take Cochrane’s back and submit him at 4:39 into the first round.
The main event featured UFC veterans Gilbert Yvel and Houston Alexander in light heavyweight action. Alexander seemed to be surprisingly outstriking Yvel early, but Yvel would get his wits together and knock out Alexander with a quick right hand that sent Alexander crashing to the canvas at the 3:59 mark of round one.
