Ronda Rousey claims Miesha Tate’s arm in the first round to win Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Championship

After all of the trash talk, and all of the drama leading up to the monumental clash between Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey, fans were split as to who would emerge victorious in their match-up. Would it be the seasoned champion Tate, who’s experience edge, and overall toughness be the winner? Or would the Olympic judo bronze medalist, with fewer fights, back up her world class grappling pedigree?

Most thought that if Rousey was going to win, then she would most likely do it in the same fashion as she had her first four opponents, and that was by armbar submission in the first round. The two female competitors went back and forth on social media outlets, had a heated moment at the event’s weigh-ins, and quite simply just showed a genuine dislike for each other, and when they finally squared off on Saturday night, the worst case scenario unfolded for Miesha Tate.

Tate came out strong, and showed no signs of backing up, and displayed accurate striking, but in the quick, and transitional position exchanges, Rousey clearly showed why her stellar judo background was going to be the deciding factor in the bout’s outcome. Ronda failed at her first attempt to place an armbar on Tate, but after a few hectic scrambles, Rousey obtained a favorable enough of a position edge to slap on an armbar that not only forced Tate to submit, but also appears to have possibly damaged her arm pretty badly.

Rousey now, with only five fights in her professional MMA career is the new Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion, has yet to see the 2nd round in any of her fights, and has finished all of her opposition in the same manner. Rousey’s opponents know what to expect, but no one has been able to stop her from doing what she does best, which is apparently, collecting WMMA fighter’s arms for her collection. Let’s just hope that Miesha is OK, and that her arm isn’t too badly injured, for she is sure to be back inside the cage soon, to attempt to reclaim her title. MMA fans won’t stand for anything less.
