Antonio McKee misses weight for MFC 32, loses MFC contract and has title stripped

MMA fighters missing weight is starting to almost become standard operating procedure in the MMA community. Just a few weeks back, when Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson failed to make weight at UFC 142: Rio, by the largest margin in recent memory, at a whopping eleven pounds, it seems as though some other organizations outside of the UFC are taking more drastic steps towards preventing such scenarios in the future. Although Johnson was released by the UFC, due to his weight miss, the MFC has taken the disciplining of its fighters to the next level.

MFC lightweight champion Antonio McKee was all set to defend his title at tomorrow night’s MFC 32 event, against Brian Cobb, but at the weigh-ins for MFC 32, McKee failed to make weight by a sizable seven pound differential. MFC officials confirmed today, following Antonio’s weight miss, that McKee is to be let go from his MFC contract, and is also to be stripped of his lightweight title. The bout against Cobb will still go down, but now the future for McKee is uncertain.

McKee has already had a bumpy road with the MFC in the last year as it is, as he left the organization to fight for the UFC, but that did not work out in Antonio’s favor either. McKee was set to face Drew Fickett upon his return to the Maximum Fighting Championship, after his recent one-and-done UFC stint, but a knee injury put that fight on the back burner. Now that McKee is to be dismissed from the MFC, without his belt, one can only speculate as to where he will end up. Antonio has already stated in the past that he was close to retirement, due in part to his reputation for grinding out victories as an MFC titleholder, so discussions of him leaving the sport of MMA for good, may start to resurface now.
